Aliff Hakimi Nizam’s journey began not in lecture halls, but in long, demanding shifts. Working as a security guard across two hospitals, he endured grueling 12-hour days, driven by a goal bigger than his circumstances. Faced with financial challenges, he chose not to wait for opportunity—he worked for it.
Every shift was a step forward.
Beyond the physical demands of his job, Aliff faced another challenge—mastering the English language. What once felt like a barrier became his mission. Through discipline and persistence, he turned that struggle into strength, laying the foundation for his path as an educator.
His dedication eventually opened a life-changing door. Aliff was awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, allowing him to pursue a Master’s degree in TESOL Studies at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. It was a milestone that reflected years of quiet effort and unwavering belief.
But his journey was never just about personal success.
While continuing his studies, Aliff launched Edukasi Emosi, a community initiative under the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation, aimed at empowering youth with emotional resilience. His work built on his earlier role as an ASEAN Youth Ambassador 2023, where he had already begun shaping conversations around youth development and mental well-being.
The impact of his initiative reached far beyond expectations. Edukasi Emosi was recognized as a Top 3 Impact Project at the International Youth Conference in New York, earning him the opportunity to present on a global platform during the historic UNGA 80.
From local beginnings to international recognition, Aliff’s journey proves that meaningful change does not require perfect conditions—only commitment.
Today, he stands as a visionary leader and graduate student, showing that resilience, purpose, and a focus on mental well-being can transform even the toughest beginnings into a path that reaches the world.
