Nini Daing: Empowering Youth, Building Purpose-Driven Change

From her academic beginnings in Accounting and Finance at the University of Warwick, Nini Daing appeared set for a conventional corporate path. But while navigating the world of business and tech startups, she discovered something that would ultimately redefine her purpose—the untapped potential of young people determined to create change.

That realisation led her to make a courageous shift away from the “safe” corporate route and toward social impact.

In 2010, Nini co-founded myHarapan, creating a platform dedicated to empowering young Malaysians to turn ideas into meaningful social initiatives. What began as a vision soon grew into a nationwide movement.

As CEO, she has overseen the engagement of more than 26,000 Malaysian youths and supported over 140 social businesses across the country. Her work has helped young changemakers gain not just funding, but confidence, mentorship, and the belief that their ideas can shape society.

Nini also played a key role in the Malaysian Yunus Social Business Network, collaborating with Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Laureate and pioneer of social business, to bring the Global Social Business Summit to Malaysia. It marked an important milestone in expanding conversations around purpose-driven entrepreneurship in the region.

Her leadership and dedication have earned widespread recognition, including the 2015 Social Innovation Leadership Award and a place on the Wiki Impact Top 100 Changemakers list in 2022.

Beyond the nonprofit sector, Nini brings the same values of community and sustainability into Embun Villas, her family-owned luxury resort in Janda Baik, where heritage, hospitality, and connection remain central to the experience.

To many around her, she is affectionately known as a “Master Yoda” figure—a mentor who quietly guides emerging entrepreneurs through platforms such as the South East Asia Leadership Academy (SEALA) and other global networks.

Today, Nini Daing continues to stand at the forefront of Malaysia’s social business movement. Her impact was further recognised when she was named among the AFFIN INVIKTA Top 50 Women of Excellence 2025, honouring a lifetime dedicated to empowering communities and building a stronger future for the nation.

Her journey is proof that leadership is not just about success.
It is about creating opportunities for others to rise with you.
